Bloom UT: post-processing effects for Unreal Tournament

Package Version: err...AlphaV2?
Date released: 25 November 2008

AlphaV1: First release
AlphaV2: Fixed up some readme errata

I'll start by saying that I've played UT since I was a lad. As technology improved and graphics advanced I turned to other games that showcased these improvements. The graphical updates were lovely to gander at, but no other game held its gameplay as well as UT did.

Recently, Unreal Tournament has lost a lot of its appeal because of the withdrawl of a MAJOR graphical overhaul package. Though there are other promising mods that contain most of aforementioned package's effects, some players (me) just want to experience a normal game of Unreal Tournament with beefed up post-processing effects.

Half-Life had Paranoia breath life into it's lifeless husk, hopefully this plugin/modification/whatchamacallit will do the same. If not, there's still hope... sort of. Read up on Residual Decay and The Chosen One on BeyondUnreal and UnrealSP.

NOTE: These drivers/renderers/plugins are provided as is, i.e, their structure has been left intact. They are copyrighted to their original owners and may not be tampered with unless permission is given... yada yada bla bla bla - you know the drill. If you wanna do sumfin wif it don't take any credit for fe original.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS (numbered for stupid people)

1. Unzip all three files.
2. Put enbseries.ini and d3d9.dll into the system file of your UT installation.
3. Put D3D9Drv.int and D3D9Drv.dll into the system file of your UT installation.
4. Put enbconvertor.ini and d3d8.dll into the system file of your UT installation.
5. Run UnrealTournament.exe
6. Go into preferences and select your render method. Choose D3D9. (select D3D8 if your video card does not support shader model 3.0)
7. Press shift + F12 while ingame to activate the effects.
8. If you are unsatisfied with what you see, edit the enbseries.ini file to suit your taste. There are options such as occlusion, depth of field, reflection, motion blur, etc. Some of them are not fully funtional as of yet, so you may as well play around and see what happens. Make sure you have a backup copy of enbseries.ini, though.

ISSUES/ERRORS/BUGS/ANOMALIES

As of the first release version, there are still many bugs.

- Make sure that you are using either default UT textures or Epic's S3TC textures (available from the second disk).
- Masked textures (eg moss, vines, railing) have a black background. I don't know how to solve this as of yet.
- If your video card does not support shader 3.0, some effects may not show up. The only solution is to switch to D3D8 or get a new graphics card.
- Certain levels lag inexplicably if the plugin is not activated.
- There is no OpenGL support as of yet.
- If your UT minimizes while pressing shift+F12, change your key bindings in the User.ini file in Unreal Tournament's system file.

Please report errors that you are able to find.

NB: Please remember that this is NOT my work. The enbseries plugin and D3D8 fix belong to Boris (boris-vorontsov.narod.ru), while the D3D9 renderer belongs to C.W. Dohnal (http://cwdohnal.home.mindspring.com). I've merely figured a way to make the Deus Ex plugin work with UT (sticks out tongue).

If there are any problems, do not hesitate visiting the BeyondUnreal forums.
