:amber model for UT

Amber is a plug-in player model for UT based on the meshes for one of the characters in an as-yet untitled film i am making using unreal movie studio. I haven't made a fully featured player model with lots of skins etc because basically this was just a test project to get the models to work in UT in advance of making all the characters for the movie. So, there is only one skin, with base (pink) and 4 team coloured versions. Only one face, also.

YES YES I COPIED THE IDEA FOR THE BIG GUN GLOVE THINGY FROM THE RUMIKO MODEL... which is a great model with great skins so download it and install it from polycount.

the glove thingy gives amber aiming help, has a compartment for stuff (she's a freelance "courier"), and also takes two endorphine vials (the blue things) which are administered through a canula included in the glove assemby (she's enthusiastic about pain reduction).

i've also made a player model version of her boyfriend, Quincey, a dude with spiky hair. i'm just fixing up his skins before i release him

BUGS/PROBLEMS
apologies to those of you using software rendering... it can't do the overlapping polygons where i've made the skirt separate to the legs.
also, since changing from 3dFX to NVIDIA (cos their cards are better and cheaper, these days) i think i have found a D3D bug in the player selection window- a lot of the polygons show thru from behind other polygons eg you can see her hair thru her face, and her torso thru her arms at some times. this doesn't happen with OpenGL or Glide, and it only happens in the Player Setup window, not in the game. please email me if you know why... it seems to happen a little with the epic models but a lot more with mine.

CONSTRUCTION
made with milkshape3d 1.4.1
an excellent modelling program by Mete Ciragan at chumbalum soft. exports staight to UT format.
get it at http://www.swissquake.ch/chumbalumsoft/

polygon properties fixed with UnrealFX by jmuh!
an excellent utility. before i found this i was editing the d_3d files in a hex editor to get the materials and polygonFX right!
get it at http://members.tripod.com/UnrealFX/

time taken: quite a while.

USCRIPT STUFF
if you look at the .u files you'll see i've rewritten a lot of the animation functions in the player and bot scripts. this is because epic made small and large weapon versions of most animations for each mesh, but the small weapon animations are only played when using the enforcer or translocator, and the small "Look" animations aren't ever called from the code at all. being rather proud of my small weapon animations, i have changed the code so they are played when using the enforcer, tranloc, biorifle and flakcannon, as they all seem like one handed weapons.
i also changed the death and takehit animation code to better suit the animations i made for amber. unfortunately, her head doesn't come off if you score a head shot.
i use winedit for uscript coding which has been set up for unrealscript and will UCC make and do other cool stuff from within the program. check out chimeric and the other uscript sites for info. i can't remember where i got the winedit mod from, but someone has already done the hard work for you.
